ZoomiTag vs AirTag — which pet tracker is better?

Apple AirTag is a brilliant item tracker. But it wasn't designed as a pet tag. ZoomiTag was built from the ground up as a live GPS pet tracker and pet health tracker — purpose-built to keep pets safe, not just findable.

What AirTag can't do for pets

No pet profile

AirTag doesn't know it's attached to a pet. There's no way to store your dog's breed, age, photo, or any identifying information. A finder sees a phone number — nothing about the animal in front of them.

No health tracking

AirTag has no sensors for activity, sleep, or wellness monitoring. It can't tell you how much exercise your dog got today or whether your cat's sleep pattern has changed. It tracks location (loosely) and nothing else.

No finder guidance

When someone finds a pet wearing a ZoomiTag, they see the pet's name, temperament notes, medical needs, and multiple ways to contact the owner. AirTag gives them a phone number and nothing else — no context, no guidance on how to help.

No vet information

If your pet is found injured and taken to an emergency vet, there's no way to access their medical history, allergies, or current medications from an AirTag. ZoomiTag puts that information one scan away.

No sitter handover

Handing your pet to a sitter, walker, or boarding facility? AirTag offers nothing. ZoomiTag provides a complete care profile — feeding instructions, daily routine, medication schedules, and behavioural notes.

No pet-specific geofencing

AirTag's "Notify When Left Behind" feature is designed for items, not pets. It doesn't let you set custom safe zones around your garden, the dog park, or a holiday property. ZoomiTag Health does.

Where AirTag works

To be fair, AirTag does some things well. The Find My network is vast — hundreds of millions of Apple devices can detect a nearby AirTag and relay its location anonymously. In densely populated areas, this can give you a rough idea of where your pet is. The battery lasts about a year with no charging. And at £29, it's affordable.

For some pet owners, AirTag serves as a basic "better than nothing" tracker. But it's fundamentally an item tracker repurposed for pets, and it shows. There's no pet profile, no health data, no finder guidance, and no real-time GPS. It relies entirely on being near other iPhones to work.

The verdict

AirTag is a general-purpose item tracker. ZoomiTag is a purpose-built pet safety system. If you want to know roughly where your keys are, AirTag is great. If you want to protect your pet with real-time GPS, health monitoring, a full digital profile, and instant recovery features — ZoomiTag is the tool built for the job.

Your pet isn't a set of keys. They deserve a tag designed for them.
